A French judicial official says the alleged gunman who shot and killed 5 folks in a Christmas market assault this month in Strasbourg had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

The judicial official, who is just not approved to talk publicly concerning the investigation, mentioned investigators have discovered a video saved on a USB key through which Cherif Chekatt had claimed allegiance to the extremist group. The video was at Chekatt’s residence.

Chekatt, 29, died in a shootout with police two days after his Dec. 11 assault at Strasbourg’s common Christmas market.

Shortly after his demise, the Islamic State group’s Amaq information company claimed he was a “soldier” of the group. French Inside Minister Christophe Castaner had rejected the declare as “completely opportunistic.”
