Constance Wu explains her outburst after “Fresh Off the Boat’s” renewal




“I actually like FOTB. I was rapidly upset yesterday not on account of I hate the current nonetheless bc its renewal meant I needed to give up one different mission that I was really eager about. So my dismayed social media replies have been additional about that completely different mission and by no means about FOTB,” the actress wrote in a press launch posted to Twitter on Saturday.

The hit ABC comedy follows a family adjusting to suburban Orlando life after shifting from Chinatown. Wu wrote that having fun with her character Jessica Huang was “fun and easy and pleasant.” But she talked about that she want to pursue harder roles.

“In general, I’ve always sought artistic challenge over comfort and ease. I was disappointed in not being able to do that other project — Because that other project would have challenged me as an artist — that other project would have been really hard and not easy or pleasant at all,” she wrote.

Wu’s preliminary response to the info that the current was returning for Season 6 shocked followers.

“So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh,” she tweeted on Friday, adopted by expletives.

On the current’s Instagram account, commenters known as her out after she apparently posted “Dislike” beneath a publish about the current returning for a further season.

“Saying ‘dislike’ to this news is a slap in the face to everyone who works behind the scenes to make your show as powerful and groundbreaking as it truly is. Because the show was renewed an entire crew gets another year taking care of their families, putting their kids through college, getting medical insurance and saving for retirement. This reeks of someone out of touch and ungrateful,” one particular person talked about.

Wu didn’t delete her earlier tweets and defended them by saying they’ve been “on the heels of rough day & were ill timed (with) the news of the show.”

Still, she talked about she acknowledged why many people have been upset over her preliminary tweets.

“But my words and ill-timing were insensitive to those who are struggling, especially insensitive considering the fact that I used to be in that struggle too,” she wrote in her latest publish. “I do regret that and it wasn’t nice and I am sorry for that.”

Wu starred in the blockbuster “Crazy Rich Asians” closing summer time season. The movie made $239 million at the subject office.
