Jetway collapses at Baltimore-Washington International Airport

A jetway collapsed at Baltimore-Washington International Airport Saturday evening, sending passengers hurtling to the bottom and injuring six.

The injured had been exiting a aircraft by way of the jetway — the enclosed passageway connecting an airport gate and their aircraft. They have been taken to native hospitals with non-life threatening accidents, officers stated.

CBS Baltimore quoted passengers on the aircraft saying a lady had fallen in poor health on the Southwest Airlines flight from Punta Cana within the Dominican Republic.

They stated the jetway collapsed as medics have been escorting her off.

“As they received her, she’s strolling out, we heard this extremely loud bang, it was simply deafening. And then the factor crashed,’’ passenger William Yerman advised the station.

Michelle Yerman stated, “It was very scary that it collapsed with people on it, and they took a big spill onto the concrete.”

The remainder of the passengers used the aircraft’s staircase to exit.
