China: Many Chinese dead, hurt in North Korea traffic crash

BEIJING  — A lot of Chinese language vacationers have been killed and injured in a “main site visitors accident” in North Korea, China’s overseas ministry mentioned Monday.

The crash occurred Sunday evening in North Hwanghae province, south of the capital Pyongyang, the ministry mentioned in a quick assertion.

Particulars on numbers of victims weren’t instantly given, and Chinese language diplomats reached in Pyongyang mentioned they’d challenge an announcement later.

Footage on Chinese language state broadcaster CCTV confirmed the mangled wreckage of a bus at the hours of darkness with rain falling. Rescue autos had been on the scene and injured had been proven being handled in hospital.

China and North Korea share a prolonged border and China is North Korea’s largest buying and selling associate, though commerce has dropped off by about 90 p.c below United Nations sanctions.

Chinese language vacationers are among the many largest teams of tourists to the remoted, hard-line communist state, usually paying homage at websites associated to China’s army intervention within the 1950-53 Korean Battle.
